If you are near Málaga and want to do something unique with the kids, a visit to the Carromato de Mijas is an absolute must. This particular museum in Mijas, opened in 1972, offers an enchanting experience with its extensive collection of miniatures. The collection was originally curated by D. Juan Elegido Millán, better known as Professor Max, a famous hypnotist. Originally housed in an old wooden wagon, the Carromato de Mijas is now in a building faithfully recreated from the original. Inside this museum, you can marvel at 360 unique miniatures made from various materials such as school chalk, soap and even breadcrumbs. Some works of art are so small that they can only be seen using magnifying glasses and sophisticated optical systems, such as a sea battle meticulously carved on the head of a pin! One of the most amazing pieces is a portrait of Abraham Lincoln painted on a pin head. Other fascinating objects include the Lord’s Prayer written on a business card and a group of undressed dried fleas. One of the pieces sure to impress is the “head of a white man reduced by the Jíbaros. Located on Avenida del Compás in Mijas, the Carromato de Mijas is easily accessible and a magical place that will enchant young and old alike. This is not only a chance to see unique art, but also to spend an afternoon in a world of wonders that will excite the creativity and curiosity of every child. There is also a performance, which is for all ages but this one is elevated so it can be seen well from about 6 years old. Smaller children can be lifted by parents.
