Most people already know: When you go to Maastricht you feel like you are abroad. The weather is always nicer here and you can enjoy the Burgundian life with the many terraces, the delicious food, the wines and the cozy streets with cobblestones. But what are you going to do when you go here for a weekend with the children? Even then there is more than enough to do and you and the children will not be bored. The nice thing about this city is that you can do very varied things, both in good weather and in bad weather.
If the weather is nice, a day can look like this: Take a walk through the beautiful Frontenpark. And the great thing is, it is right in the heart of Maastricht. During the walk you walk over the fortifications where you can still see the holes for the cannons. The kids will certainly find that impressive. You also walk along the water over jetties and bridges. There are enough large stones to climb on and meadows where the kids can run around. If you walk a little further north during the walk at the Hoge Fronten, you will come to the Fort Willem playground. This is a great place to take a break. This is a large playground where there is really plenty to do for children. There are a lot of climbing frames, bouncy castles, slides, swings and, if the weather permits, an outdoor swimming pool. Heb je iets oudere kinderen of zijn jullie juist heel avontuurlijk? Dan moet je zeker eens richting Brunssum rijden en naar het Adventure park het Plateau gaan. Een avonturenpark waar je verschillende activiteiten kan doen: klimmen in een klimbos (vanaf 5 jaar), mountainbiken (kun je er huren), boogschieten, bijlwerpen, kruisboog schieten. Vanaf hier kun je ook vertrekken voor een mooie wandeling. Er zit een leuke Oostenrijkse eettent Almhutte bij met een heerlijk terras. Voor de kids is er genoeg ruimte om lekker rond te rennen en er is een luchtkussen. Een heerlijk plekje dus voor activiteiten icm lekker ontspannen op het terras.
Na een heerlijke wandeling en een tussenstop in de leuke speeltuin, of een avontuurlijke middag bij Adventure Park het Plateau kun je de dag afsluiten met een lekker hapje en een drankje bij Café Paulus. Café Paulus is een gezellig en gastvrij café gevestigd in een historisch pand vlakbij het Vrijthof. Een café waar je vanaf het terras heerlijk kan kijken naar alle mensen die de stad in komen. Voor de kids hebben ze diverse spellen en kleurtjes. Er heerst hier een ongedwongen sfeer en je kan er een borrelhapje eten of een volwaardige maaltijd. Ook daarbij is aan de kids gedacht want ze hebben namelijk ook een kinderkaart, met spaghetti, pannenkoeken, tosti’s en kroketten.
Is het nou niet zo’n mooi weer en wil je met name dingen binnen doen, dan kan een dag er zo uitzien:
Als je kinderen nieuwsgierig zijn en graag ontdekken, dan is het Museum of Illusions de perfecte bestemming. Dit interactieve museum bevindt zich in het hart van Maastricht en biedt een verscheidenheid aan geestverruimende exposities die je waarneming uitdagen en je verbeelding stimuleren. De kids kunnen de sensatie ervaren van op een plafond lopen of in een oneindige kamer staan of groter worden dan papa en mama.
Vervolgens kun je naar de Dwaze Herder gaan om een lekker hapje te eten. Dit restaurant ligt 10 minuutjes met de auto buiten het centrum van Maastricht en is zowel voor buiten als binnen leuk. In de zomer is er een grote speeltuin en hebben ze er veel dieren rondlopen die je mag aaien en knuffelen. In de winter hebben ze er regelmatig een klein schaatsbaantje met wat kraampjes eromheen. Er is een grote toren bij waar je (tegen betaling, €2,- per persoon) naar boven kan klimmen en een mooi uitzicht hebt over de omgeving. In het restaurant zit ook een kleine binnen speeltuin. Hier kunnen de kids zich prima een tijdje vermaken terwijl jij geniet van een lekker drankje en een hapje. Uiteraard hebben ze er ook een kinderkaart.
