With its impressive views and breathtaking heights, this path is definitely a must for adventurous spirits. The route of the Caminito del Rey is a total of 7.7 kilometers long, including the access roads and the footbridges themselves. This trail is perfect for people who enjoy hiking and are not afraid of adventure. Children as young as 8 years old are allowed on the walk, making it a great option for families who enjoy an active challenge. Originally built for maintenance workers at a hydroelectric plant in the early 20th century, this historic footbridge winds along and above the Guadalhorce River. After a thorough restoration in 2015, the trail was made safely accessible to the public and now offers one of the most unique hiking experiences in Spain. Access to El Caminito del Rey is through the northern entrance at the Conde de Guadalhorce reservoir, Ardales. This is where the linear route begins, leading you through breathtaking landscapes. Expect to spend about 3 to 4 hours on the way, over a combination of restored footbridges and historic trails. Along the way, you will even pass through an evocative tunnel and the route ends with a spectacular bridge between the cliffs of the gorge.
